ARTIST STATEMENT
Precision is something that is necessary in my art as well as in my life. I am particular when it comes to everything, whether it’s setting out borders for ink to pool into or making sure the shirt I folded this morning is crisp.
My primary focus lately has been with ink and Bristol board, and the way lines progress through a piece. I focus on the wholeness the lines will create in the end. The lines may spiderweb all around and vary or they might be consistent and taper off into tiny little lines. Every line that is put down has a purpose and is intentionally done to make the piece look more unified.
When I have the viewer in mind, I want to draw them in very quickly. Most of my pieces are high-contrast and bold in attempts to do this. I want the viewer to get a feeling of neatness and crispness, especially with the lines. This means giving them a sense of satisfaction in such a way that the piece is smooth throughout.
